MEDIA STATEMENT
In response to Myrtle Beach Special City Council Meeting, Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, issued the following statement:
“First and foremost, the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce supports the actions taken today by the Myrtle Beach City Council, including bolstering its police force downtown. We appreciate their leadership in showing their commitment to resolving this issue.”
“We are also encouraged that Governor McMaster, Chairman Lazarus and others have offered to provide additional law enforcement support. These are critical first steps to ensuring that the Myrtle Beach area is a safe and welcoming community for both visitors and residents.”
“We will work closely with government leaders and law enforcement to develop and implement both short-term and long-term solutions that will promote, protect and improve our community. We will also work with the General Assembly to change state laws and guidelines so that we can help fund additional law enforcement support, similar to what we did to help with the Memorial Day Weekend safety plan."
“We will also continue to promote the area to future visitors. While no paid advertising can minimize the impact of the negative publicity, it’s more important than ever to showcase the many positive experiences our visitors enjoy every day. However, we also intend to spread the message that unlawful behavior is not welcomed here.”
