MEDIA STATEMENT
In response to yesterday's legislative hearings that included beach renourishment, Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, issued the following statement:
"We remain hopeful after yesterday's Senate Medical Affairs Committee and House Ways and Means Committee hearings in Columbia that beach renourishment will continue to be funded. We're asking the state to make a relatively small investment to help maintain one of its most vital assets – our pristine coast – in return for the hundreds of millions of dollars the Grand Strand sends back to Columbia. Along with our local delegation and coastal government leaders, we were able to emphasize that an investment in beach renourishment is imperative to a healthy tourism industry and ultimately benefits all South Carolinians. While no votes were taken, the overall discussion was very positive."
