Five veterans to represent Grand Strand in
National Memorial Day Parade
Five Grand Strand veterans are headed to Washington, D.C. to participate in the nationally televised 2017 Memorial Day Parade on May 29, 2017, after winning a contest with Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.
The veterans, one from each branch of service, and their guest will be flown to Washington, D.C. to represent the Grand Strand in the nationally televised parade sponsored by the American Veterans Center. Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce’s mobile visitors center also will be in the nation’s capital for the parade.
Before the parade, the chamber is hosting the veterans and their guest for a luncheon in the boardroom at the chamber at 1200 N. Oak Street on May 16, 2017, at noon. Media are invited to attend the luncheon.
Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce received 65 submissions. The Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center in Little River selected the winners based on the applications.
The winners are:

Shelby “Bud” A. Chestnut – U.S. Navy
Joseph R. Den Bleyker – U.S. Marines
Robert Hagan – U.S. Air Force
Holli Hatchell Fowler – U.S. Army
