NEW NON-STOP AIR SERVICE FROM MINNEAPOLIS TO MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA, BEGINS APRIL 2018 Two Airlines to Offer Flights in Response to Market Demand from Minneapolis-St. Paul Area MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – February 7, 2018 – Two new air service providers will offer non-stop flights between Minneapolis-St. Paul and the Myrtle Beach area of South Carolina. Sun Country Airlines will run a twice-weekly flight between Minneapolis and Myrtle Beach, beginning April 6 and extending through June 4. The flights will run on Mondays and Fridays. Spirit Airlines will also start non-stop flights between Minneapolis and Myrtle Beach three days a week, beginning April 12 and continuing through November. Prior to this offering, Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) was the largest origin market to the Myrtle Beach area without a non-stop air service offering. According to the Myrtle Beach International Airport, while a significant number of travelers are flying into Myrtle Beach from MSP, residents of the Myrtle Beach area are also regularly flying to Minneapolis. The new, non-stop flights are expected to increase that traffic. “These flights are meeting a consumer demand and need at market, by allowing visitors from the Minneapolis area with direct access to our gorgeous seaside community,” said Brad Dean, president of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce/CVB. “Our research shows that, to date, visitors from the area have been deterred to visit our 60 miles of coastline because of the lack of non-stop service. We’re excited to eliminate that hurdle and show even more Minneapolitans what makes the Myrtle Beach area such a welcoming, fun and dynamic vacation destination year after year.” The flights couldn’t have started at a better time, as the Myrtle Beach area looks forward to redevelopments at popular areas like Broadway at the Beach, an expansion to its idyllic and award-winning Boardwalk and Promenade, and the opening of dozens of new and locally-sourced restaurants. In addition, the Myrtle Beach International Airport has also been recently expanded and renovated, creating more departure gates, leisure spaces and restaurants, as well as adding a Sensory Friendly space to the baggage claim area, for passengers traveling with someone who might need a bit more time to decompress prior to or following a flight, or a quiet space to relax. These additions, as well as an increase in service, helped the Myrtle Beach Airport welcome its 1 millionth passenger in 2017.
