Cokie Roberts wasn’t being kooky when she suggested that Senator Barack Obama should have vacationed in Myrtle Beach rather than Hawaii on Sunday’s broadcast of This Week with George Stephanopoulos. In fact, the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce would like to challenge both Senators Obama and McCain to take a pre-election vacation and compete for a green jacket in the Masters National ProMiniGolf Championship in Myrtle Beach, SC (October 16-19th). Ironically, the tournament will be held at none other than Hawaiian Rumble, considered by authorities to be one of the world’s preeminent mini-golf courses and located in the “mini-golf capital of the world.”
“Myrtle Beach is a destination for the ultimate All-American vacation,” said Brad Dean, President and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce/CVB. “With more than 50 mini-golf courses located in the Myrtle Beach area, we’re inviting both presidential candidates and their families to enjoy a slice of Americana in good fun before the tension of the elections.”

The Myrtle Beach area, popularly known as the Grand Strand, stretches from Little River to Pawleys Island, comprising 12 distinct cities along the South Carolina coast. Home to world-class golf, 60 miles of sandy beaches, an assortment of entertainment and family attractions and Southern hospitality, the Myrtle Beach area presents the quintessential vacation experience.
